it’s actually Julia
Verna was my late grandmother
The most warm hearted and generous person you’d ever meet. Verna was full of light and life, a brilliant seamstress and crafter extraordinare. In fact, if you choose to rent some of the lace table cloths I have in my collection, chances are it was handmade by her.
She passed in 2018 at the age of 95 and I miss her terribly. She would blush at the thought of a business being named after her, but no one else could be as worthy.
I am a wedding photographer first and foremost
born in jakobstad, living in Turku
I started my business in 2012 while I was still studying photography. 14 years later I am still in love with my work as a wedding photographer and the freedom it gives me to build a life supported by my values. Verna is a direct product of that.
I have been thrifting since i was 11
Being several years younger than my older sibling, I was stuck spending my summers traveling around Finland in a camper van with my parents. We traveled hundreds of kilometers visiting cities like Iittala and Riihimäki, while stopping at each an every small flea market along the way.
Mind you, this was back when flea markets were still mostly filled with greasy old car parts, and weren’t visited by the general public. It was not love at first sight.
I’ve learned to love old things
Mainly thanks to my parents who have always preferred quality items, old and handmade, I too have grown up to treasure good craftsmanship. It’s at the point where I feel genuinely disappointed if I lift a beautiful vase at a flea market only to sit it stamped with a modern producer.
Old wares carry so much history, on top of them usually being made from higher quality materials. They are made to stand the test of time, to NOT have to be replaced in a few years. By shopping vintage you support a circular economy and can find unique pieces, real treasures, that will only increase in value with time. You are part of a sustainable movement that wants to fight for a better tomorrow with less micro plastics and forest fires.
